Evolving the Care Team for Early Diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease

Session One: Starting the AD Journey: Identifying a Potential Patient

Niels Prins, MD, provides a brief introduction to the progression of AD and explains the benefits of early diagnosis. He goes on to present a conceptual framework for the diagnostic journey, which aims to optimize AD management, before focusing on the first part of that journey: patient detection. He then outlines several key considerations for the detection of patients with AD and describes key focus areas for the improvement of detection processes, with an emphasis on education and training for non-dementia-trained healthcare professionals (HCPs).

Key Learning Objectives from Biogen’s EAN 2021 Symposium:

  • Illustrate, through discussion and reflection on current experiences and practices, how a multidisciplinary team can work effectively to improve patient care
  • Discuss the collective roles and responsibilities within the multidisciplinary team involved in the AD patient journey from the perspectives of several key stakeholders from the VUmc network

Disclosure: All panelists received honoraria from Biogen for participation in this symposium.
